Is the PlayStation 5 Worth the Hype? A Buyer’s Guide

PS5, one of the most sought-after gaming consoles, was released with an improved design and improved specs in 2020. The PS5 isn’t the only impressive gaming console on the market, and since it’s hard to get hold of the PS5, the question arises: should you buy it? On this page, we will discuss our favorite things about the PS5 and some things that might not be as great.

Reasons to buy the PS5

The PlayStation 5 has taken the gaming industry by storm, delivering a number of compelling reasons that make it an appealing buy for both seasoned gamers and newbies. The PS5 has a lot to offer with its unique features, cutting-edge technology, and a great list of games. Here are some reasons why you should consider purchasing a PS5:

1. The PS5 has SSD storage

The PS5 now has SSD storage, an upgrade from the HDD storage you get in the previous PS4 models. Having an SSD will result in faster speeds and faster game startups. Additionally, SSD storage consumes less space and is quieter than a hard disk drive because it doesn’t have moving parts.

Bonus tip: Improve PS4 performance

Note that even though a PS4 comes with HDD storage, you can upgrade it to SSD storage for improved performance and speed.

2. The Dualsense controller

In addition to the improved design, the new PS5 controllers also feature new and improved features over the previous models. Among these features is haptic feedback, which provides feedback on your actions in the game via dynamic sensors. As a result of this, you will be able to feel explosions, reverbs, and more while playing.

An additional feature is the adaptive triggers that apply resistance and tension to R2 and L2 buttons, making the gaming experience more immersive. In FIFA, for example, the sprint button will tense up as your player gets tired from running.

3. The PS5 is backward compatible

The PS5 is backward compatible, which means it can play PS4 games. With this feature, you won’t have to buy any new games if you previously owned a PS4. The PS5 can also be used to play online with PS4 players, so no worries if your friends still have the PS4.

4. Big Community

Despite a limited number of PS5 consoles being sold, it is still the world’s most popular gaming console, demonstrating its hype and popularity. As a result of this high demand, you will also have a large community where lobbies are always full of players.

5. Playstation Plus improvements

With an XBOX model ONE or higher, you can subscribe to the XBOX Game Pass, which provides monthly access to hundreds of different games. Game Pass is a terrific feature for gamers, and Sony has released a similar subscription for their PS5 and PS4 systems.

Sony currently has three different tiers to choose from in Playstation Plus. You have the option of selecting Essential, Extra, or Premium (Deluxe). The main advantage of an Extra or Premium (Deluxe) subscription is access to the Playstation Catalog, which allows you to play hundreds of free games online.

6. Gaming in 4K

Another excellent feature of the PS5 is the ability to play 4K resolution games at 120 Hz. Gaming in 4K resolution will produce a more sharp and more colorful image, resulting in a better experience. The fast refresh rate also makes each movement look smooth and has low latency, which not only looks fantastic but also allows you to perform better in competitive games. Ensure that your monitor/TV supports 4K and 120Hz and that you have the correct HDMI cable.

Reasons NOT to buy the PS5

While the PlayStation 5 offers a number of remarkable features and perks, there are several factors that may cause some people to delay purchasing the machine. To make an informed decision, examine both the good and negative factors. Here are some of the reasons why someone would decide not to get a PS5:

1. About 90% of the games on PS5 can run on the PS4

Most of the games that can be played on the PS5 can also be played on the PS4 with a fairly similar gameplay experience. PS5 exclusive-only games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Gran Turismo 7, and many other games are also available on the PS4.

2. There is a limited supply

Due to COVID, a global shortage of electronic chips, and the conflict in Ukraine, there is a limited supply of PS5 gaming consoles. Since many people purchase PS5s and resell them for more money, finding a PS5 for a reasonable price will become problematic. You should wait until they stock up to make sure you don’t overpay for a PS5 or go on a wild goose chase.

3. It is expensive

Assume you’ve successfully found a PS5 for sale. So be prepared to pay at least $500. With a global shortage of electronic chips and global economic problems, you shouldn’t expect the price to fall but rather to rise. Keep in mind that games that are exclusive to the PS5 will also be expensive. Accessories such as the PS5 controller, headphones, and, if needed, the extra storage will also cost you money.

Bonus tip:

You can use a PS4 controller to play on the PS5, but only on PS4 games.

4. The XBOX Series X/S has a better value

The Xbox series S and X were released the same year as the PS5, and even though the Xbox didn’t receive as much hype as the PS5, it is still an impressive gaming console. With similar specifications to the PS5, you can expect the same gaming experience. Moreover, an Xbox is more accessible to obtain than a PS5, and they generally cost less than the PS5.
