We’re here to provide an extra dash of fun to your PlayStation 5 journey, from unpacking to revealing the hidden treasures of your new system. So grab your controller, clear your calendar, and prepare to become amazed.
But, before you dive into the deep worlds and breathtaking graphics, there are a few things you should know about customizing your PlayStation 5 setup. This guide will lead you through the first things to do with your PlayStation 5, ensuring that you fully utilize its capabilities
Expandable storage
The PS5 digital and disc versions both come with 825 GB of SSD storage, but because the operating system and other data are pre-installed, you will only have 667.2 GB of usable capacity. Games currently use a lot of storage space, and having a range of them that you can play at the same time without having to remove and reinstall certain games might be difficult. By manually inserting an extra SSD drive, you could boost storage and performance on your PS5. The procedure has grown simpler, requiring only a screw, an SSD, and your PS5 of course.
External SSD

Purchasing an external SSD (Solid State Drive) for your PS5 can enhance your gaming experience and provide several benefits. Despite having a fast NVMe SSD, users with large game collections may find the PS5’s storage space to be insufficient. Your storage capacity may be increased by adding an external SSD, which gives you extra space for movies and games.
Compatible HDMI cable
When you own a monitor or TV with a refresh rate of 120Hz, it indicates that the screen can update its content 120 times per second. To properly utilize this functionality, you must have an HDMI cable that offers the appropriate frequency.
A cable with inadequate capacity could restrict the refresh rate, impairing your gaming experience and preventing you from fully exploiting the capabilities of your high-refresh-rate display. Similarly, if you’ve purchased a 4K monitor or TV, the HDMI cable must be capable of handling the data transfer at the required resolution.
- Check the HDMI specs and make sure the cables are HDMI 2.1 or later, which are intended for higher resolutions and refresh rates.
Controller settings
The Playstation consoles continue to evolve alongside the gaming industry. Although not only the consoles but also the controllers, have been upgraded. The new Dualsense PS5 controllers include improved haptic feedback, improved trigger feel, and an integrated microphone. You can also tweak and edit the controller settings to create your personalized controller by changing the button input position or adjusting the stick sensitivity, among other things, to improve your performance and enhance your gaming experience

PS5 Dark Mode and Blue Light Filter
Enabling Night Mode and a Blue Light Filter on your PS5 can improve your gaming experience greatly, especially during evening or midnight sessions. These features are designed to prevent eye strain and improve sleep patterns and general eye health.
- Night Mode: Night Mode modifies the display settings to lower overall brightness and soften strong contrasts. This is very beneficial while gaming in low-light environments.
How to enable “Night Mode”:
Navigate to the PlayStation 5 settings.
Navigate to the “Screen and Video” options.
Find and enable the “Night Mode” option.
- Blue Light Filter: The Blue Light Filter reduces the amount of blue light that the screen emits. Blue light is believed to disrupt melatonin synthesis, the hormone responsible for sleep regulation.
How to enable “Blue Light Filter”:
Navigate to the “Accessibility” section of the PS5 settings.
Select the “Display” tab.
Adjust the strength of the “Blue Light Filter” as appropriate.
PS5 accessories
With each attachment, your PS5 gaming experience becomes more customized and pleasurable. These add-ons provide convenience and immersion to your gaming setup, whether you’re using them to improve audio, increase storage, or customize the look of your console.

- Controller Grips or Skins: Customized grips or skins can enhance your DualSense controller’s comfort and grip. Additionally, over time, skins can shield your controller from wear and scratches.
- Customized LED Lighting Strips: With customizable LED lighting strips, you can jazz up your gaming setup. Certain lighting strips create an immersive visual experience by synchronizing with in-game movements.
- Console Skin Protector: Use these guards to prevent dust and scratches on your PS5. Protective skins can keep your console’s resale value high.
- Wireless gaming headset: With a gaming headset, you can move around freely without being connected to your console. Seek for surround sound headsets for a more engaging listening experience.
- PS5 DualSense Charging Station: Use a certified charging station to simultaneously charge up to two DualSense controllers. The small size of the design keeps your gaming setup tidy and saves room.
Ethernet cable
One of the most crucial factors to consider before purchasing a gaming device is whether the online connection is steady and suitable for gaming so that you can receive the greatest experience possible without latency or other forms of disruptions. If your internet provider’s range and efficiency are limited, you can purchase an Ethernet cable, which will not only reduce lag and murky online connections but will do so significantly.

An ethernet cable connected to your PS5 will increase connectivity tenfold, and ethernet cables are inexpensive when compared to the function and value they provide. The price varies depending on how long you want your cable to be. To ensure that it will reach your router to your PS5, measure the ideal route and select a cable that is the necessary length (and possibly a little longer).
Link your PS5 to your phone
Connecting your PS5 to your phone gives you a world of convenience and possibilities, enabling you to take your gaming experience beyond the boundaries of the system. Connecting your PS5 to your phone can improve your whole gaming setup, whether for remote control, social engagement, or accessing new capabilities.
- Accessibility and remote control: The remote control feature is enabled by connecting your PS5 to your phone. You can use your mobile device to navigate menus, control media playing, and even turn on/off your console.
- Messaging and Social Interaction: Using your phone, you can stay in touch with your gaming buddies and communities. The PlayStation App enables texting, voice chat, and alerts, keeping you involved even when you are not connected to your console.
If you have an iOS or Android phone you can install the PlayStation app on your phone and connect it to your PS5 to get information on your phone instead of having to open up your PS5 every time. Doing this will give you the option to start downloads from your phone, manage your PS5 storage, etc.
If you want to connect your phone then you just have to activate Bluetooth on your phone, download and open the PlayStation App, and then select Settings > Link Console to App and follow the instructions.
